New Bicycle Routes & Maps

Time to relish the earthy spring breezes of May. What better way than to choose a new cycling route to explore, grab a map, and go?

New! Washington Parks Route & Map: Check out our new Washington Parks route & maps. This 870-mile, double loop route offers many options for creating the ultimate bicycle trip in Washington State, including some of the best cycling terrain anywhere: the San Juan Islands, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, and more. The maps contain ample information about services along the routes, including ferry services, which will help cyclists construct fantastic hybrid loops crossing land and water. The maps also include Adventure Cycling’s trademark field notes, providing insight into the landscapes that cyclists will experience while using the maps. Check out the route!

The Adventure Cycling Route Network: With the launch of the Washington Parks route, our route network has jumped to 38,138 miles! Since the creation of our TransAmerica trail, we’ve spent countless hours researching and mapping bicycle routes and we believe we've developed the best cross-country and coastal cycling routes available. Learn more about our routes and our cycling maps. First time visitor at Adventure Cycling?

Underground Railroad Route Named in Top 10: Our Underground Railroad Bicycle Route has been named as one of the world's top ten cycling routes in National Geographic's travel guide, Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World's Greatest Trips. Also, if you've ridden even a small section of the route, there is still time to comment on our entry in National Geographic's Ashoka's Changemakers Geotourism Challenge. Your comments and stories help our nomination!

Map Your Own Ride: User generated maps are everywhere. On Pedaling.com you can pick from one of many user submitted favorites or submit your own beloved bike route. Check out Bicycling’s information on GPS and bike mapping, or Veloroutes.org’s easy-to-use map your ride interface.  These may be useful tools for creating a self-designed cycling adventure.

New! East Coast Routes: Mid-winter we announced three new cycling routes totaling almost 1,000 miles in the eastern United States. Now that things are thawing out, why not explore the Adirondack Park Loop and the Allegheny Mountains Loop, both extended loop rides, or the Pittsburgh Spur which connects Pittsburgh with our acclaimed 2,028-mile Underground Railroad Bicycle Route.

A U.S. Bicycle Route System? A few years ago Adventure Cycling Association and several other organizations teamed up with AASHTO (American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials) to develop a U.S. Bike Route System, envisioning a future of mapped and signed bike routes crossing the U.S., connecting rural areas and urban centers. Sound exciting? Learn more about this initiative.

Our First Rider Arrived! Samuel Bock of Germany (pictured above near Rattlesnake Creek) arrived at our national headquarters on April 29 winning a pile of gift certificates for Missoula businesses and an offer to camp out at our membership director's home. Bock is riding across the U.S. and Canada and came to us via Washingon after conquering the West Coast.
